Our farm has proudly been in the Lohr family for over 100 years. It recently earned
the rare distinction of being named a "Virginia Century Farm." Our farming operation
spans over 250 acres and includes 4 broiler houses, beef cattle, barley, alfalfa,
soybeans, and of course...pumpkins.
We have dedicated our lives to being great stewards of the land. Over the years
we have implemented numerous best management practices to make our farm more environmentally
friendly. They include fencing off waterways, planting trees, strip cropping and
rotational grazing to name a few. We have been honored as "environmental winners
of excellence" by the Rockingham-Harrisonburg Chamber of Commerce, Pilgrims Pride
Poultry, The Virginia Poultry Federation, and the US Poultry and Egg Association.

Larry and Carol Lynch moved to Virginia in 2009. Originally from Kentucky, (where
they raised 3 children-Andrea, Erika, and Joshua) they moved to Wyoming in 2000
but came to Virginia after Andrea was diagnosed with cancer a third time. They started
running the Field Trip portion of the pumpkin patch operation in the fall of 2010.
Larry worked for 30 years in Kentucky as an FFA teacher/advisor, adult young farmer
teacher/advisor, and then vocational school principal. While in Wyoming he was the
Director of Rehabilitation for Big Horn Enterprises, a business that assisted developmentally
handicapped adults. Carol also was in education as an English/French teacher and
then a guidance counselor in both Kentucky and Wyoming. she is currently working
part-time as a curriculum specialist with Blue Ridge Community College. They have
quarter horses on their farm on Arkton Road in Tenth Legion. You will see both "Mr.
Larry" and "Miss Carol" if you make plans to come to the pumpkin patch for a field
trip. Field trips can be scheduled between September 19th thru October 30th. You
can call them to book your field trip at 540-896-7873 or email to lclynch@tctwest.net .

Matt has been an owner and partner in the family farm for over 16 years. Matt served
as a state and national FFA officer before graduating from Virginia Tech with a
degree in agricultural education. He served in the Virginia state legislature for
five years representing the 26th House District before being appointed as Virginia’s
14th Commissioner of Agriculture & Consumer Services in 2010.
Caroline and Carson are the next generation of the farming operation. Although too
young to work the fields, they love horses, four wheelers, tractors and life on
the farm. It is Matt's hope that they may one day wish to carry on the farming tradition.
